You changing your routine will be stressful for your dog. Yes.
But the objective in doing this is to give very clear indicators. Something is different. Something is awry. Something is afoot. Something is happening. This is not what we do.
We are breaking the pattern intentionally so that later on, when you do return back to your training, you can maintain the pattern/routine that you would already set up. They’re not reliving what was happening before with being left alone.
So, yes, it’s stressful, but we are making the best out of a crappy situation. It’s not ideal and I’m not recommending everybody do it throughout the entire journey.
I’m saying if you have to leave your dog alone, that is the way to do it.
