What’s up everyone!
This video breaks down step by step how to PROPERLY train your dog to bring a toy back to you! Some dogs will do this with zero training, thanks to their GENETICS! BUT, most dogs need to be trained to understand this interaction, especially if they are not a retriever!

HAPPY TRAINING! And remember, IT’S NEVER THE DOG’S FAULT!!!
Okay [Music] What is up everyone Andy Krueger here Welcome welcome back today’s video I’m Going to show you the very first step in Teaching your dog to bring the toy back To you I’m here with one of my boarding trains One-year-old female German Shepherd Ramona AKA rah-rah when I initially Evaluated Ramona the one glaring Weakness is that she could not play she Could not play for anything she would Not bring a toy back to you No matter what you did but today I will show you the very first step in Teaching them to bring the toy back Spoiler alert it doesn’t involve you Launching a ball halfway down the field And then crossing your fingers once the Dog gets it no I got 10 foot leash on her if you don’t Have a leash How dare you set the dog up for failure Got my leash Oh yeah baby I think she’s ready I’ll Zip it first step 10 foot leash ball on A string chair This is the one instance where you want Your dog jumping on you yeah I said it You want them coming back to you with All the Vigor in the world you want them Jumping up and engaging you look at my Legs they’re parallel to the ground the
Dog has something to put their feet on Much easier than just standing up here We go I’m gonna give her the ball and Then I’m gonna get her to jump on me and Then I’m an appraiser if your dog can’t Do this don’t you move on till they can Give her the ball oh yeah she jumps on Me I make it the best part of her day I Push her off Yes Oh watch your face if you give your dog The ball and they refuse to jump up on You from a foot in front of you or less That’s what you need to Target Yes Now I can give it to my dog She jumps right up on me now let’s add a Little action Stay Oh yeah I put the ball in between me and the dog Before I start throwing it behind the Dog and making it hard I put it right in Between us so I use that momentum of her Coming forward to my advantage step Three we kick it up a notch now ball Goes behind the dog Out Okay So say over the course of 10 15 sessions Your dog has all of that mastered they Come right out Time after time they do that all one After another
Now whoop let’s fast forward let’s move On I’m gonna take an upright position Same drill steps one through three are You ready Okay Oh yeah right there that’s your goal so If from day one you totally squash Your dogs Willingness to jump on you It may be good for manners at the time But when you start trying to train or Retrieve your dog to come to you and Play that’s when it’s gonna bite you so Teach this first and then once the dog’s Good you can stop all that nonsense Jumping after Remember the in between And move back look at her Up down This is where it pays to have a 10-foot Leash Oh yeah baby oh yeah step three Come on Yeah [Music] Make it fun Out Yes Come on Nice job Down Out You guys can see how this is gonna start
To translate to me chucking the toy as Far as I can her getting it and bringing It back now of course if you’re doing That you got to be very careful fetch Can be extremely dangerous check my Other videos but you can see how this is Going to start to form and everything You just saw I’m not joking you is Months and months and months Of hard work every single day by both me And her owner some puppies will Naturally bring something back you get An eight week old right from the breeder Give them a little toy come here buddy And they come right to you well lucky For you she’s not that kind of dog she Was the exact opposite so everything you Saw here that’s not all gonna happen in One session unless you have a very easy Dog so take your time you can’t do too Much of the chair you can’t do too much Of the other exercises before you really Start to build it this is how you play With the dog this is how you bond with a Dog okay anyone can scratch her belly And give her kisses all day she could Get attached to a complete stranger that Way but not everyone Can access this part of the dog’s brain Not anyone can influence the dog’s Behavior in this kind of way so if your Dog can play with you like this That’s what makes you special if they Just take the toy and try to hightail it
Out of there Your dog’s telling you I don’t want to Play with you and if your dog doesn’t Want to play You can’t really train them if you do Train them and they don’t want to play You probably just have to force Everything and while that can lead to Obedience results it’s not going to lead To a dog that’s Super inspired to do the work so play With your dog people right Ramona yes Thanks for watching y’all if you haven’t I’d really appreciate a subscribe hit my Patreon for all the extended content Behind the scenes step by step unedited Videos Check the link in the description maybe Buy some of your boys merch huh maybe Buy some of your boys merch happy Training see you all next time The dog fully understands the behavior The dog’s fully motivated to do the Behavior and she has thousands of reps Under her belt Now is an appropriate time to layer in My e-collar collar goes to 18. I’m using A level three A fraction of what the collar is capable Of if you put this on your arm It’ll give you like a tingling feeling Not a shock so when you hear the sound It’s starting on level three and it’s Decreasing the level one a small
Fraction of the collar when you Introduce an e-collar and layer it into Your dog’s training key word Subtle Subtle you want the feeling around the Dog’s neck to be subtle no different Than using the leash like this climb Free Climb Free So a subtle feeling that the dog can Feel they can perceive it they might Even go hmm But subtle here we go Foreign [Music] [Music] [Music]
