Appears an incredibly bad puller in Particular towards other things this Cannot continue with this dog because he Is far far too strong today I'm joined By this absolutely beautiful but Monstrous Dr Bordeaux and this is a Fascinating case he is an incredibly bad Puller in particular towards other Things so you might class it more as Reactivity than you would pull in dog de Bordeaux's are not food driven they are Not toy driven and they're not very Handler engagement driven that means uh Options in terms of distracting law in Marking obedience isn't there with these Dogs that's why these dogs need Excellent handling skills this thing of Him doing what he wants when he wants Has to stop because what he wants to do Is look for threats see Frets and then Get the threats to go away or for him to Get as far away from the threat as Possible and because there's a human Attached to him when he's doing that That is what's going to get him in Serious trouble and the humans in Serious injury so as with most of the Cases I always start on especially ones That are like this with zero engagement I'm going to do my engagement shoe nut Drill but I am going to have to focus And make sure that I feather it in very Lightly so that I don't create any panic In him and shut him down which is going
To be the worst case scenario once we've Achieved that and we've got the Engagement then we're going to build him Back up with as much positive Reinforcement praise work as possible Good boy good Oh boy So there I was able to level it up Yeah good boy And I'm starting to feel comfortable now That I can start going to More efficient levels good boy Good boy Whether I first come to a stop Good Bye Bruce good Yeah look at this now we're talking now We're making progress because you're in Tune with me engaging with me I'm Claiming this play place planting my Flag and this is going to be the rewards We're going to be working on today we've Tried he wouldn't take food off me even If it was sausages or chicken or hot Dogs But because we're building a Relationship now where he's just gone Through an experience of going oh you're In charge I guess he's going to yield That control to me and when he does so Like he's doing now I'm going to reward It with physical praise which is very Common with Mastiffs that they love this And even if as an owner
You're not naturally inclined to take Control you're not naturally in Assertive confident leader person Unfortunately you don't have a choice Especially when it comes to dogs like This without leadership it's a disaster So you have to step up so now we're Starting to bring this out into the real World real life distractions tuning him Up this is what I always talk about what You're seeing unfold now is the weight Of the world coming off the dog Shoulders because I've stepped in and Gone hey Bruce It's okay buddy I'm in control you don't Have to worry and we're just Feathering That in now working on it and then we're Going to get his biggest distraction out So an hour into the session we're going To get dogs out and teach them that same Message it doesn't matter mate doesn't Matter I'm in control you don't have to Worry stop panicking I've got this You'll be happier because of it and We'll be safe because of it so we've now Brought a dog out it's just a few meters Behind the cameraman and we're just Gonna do some similar drills and see What levels now needed when the most Extreme distractions come out but with a New language that we've taught him as You can see he's building The crimes coming in we're now going to Start to move towards and we'll see what
Happens So that would definitely tidy this up But I'm interested if we get any lunging At all and then if we do what's going to Be required to disengage So if we look at the footage from Earlier this morning compared to this Massive massive Improvement this test is Going to be one human in between Interesting if you notice that there you Actually rushed to get past the dog that To me confirms my suspicions But he's nervous and he's scared and He's scared of other dogs Probably built from the fact that the Owners get so scared when they say other Dogs because of how he's going to Respond and it's become this Self-fulfilling prophecy Of dog equals a terrible thing be scared Panic run it's what we need to do now I'm not going to ask him to like other Dogs I'm not going to be able to achieve That I'd be lying if I said that I could What I need him to understand is you Don't need to worry about that other dog Though it's there It's okay that you don't like it but I'm In charge here and I'm not going to let That dog hurt you I'm in control of this Situation I just need you to focus on me Really good boy again I'm gonna I would Like this heel to be nicer if I'm going To shake that up let's go
Disengage look bring him back in This time no humans in between dog to Dog Lost himself a bit leaf Leave it Leaves randomly being another thing that He likes to Chase Brilliant disengaged him from it nicely Lovely Again another male dog right in front of Him Beautiful Bruce good boy 180 when you're Ready Matt Really wanted to give him the benefit of The doubt there but he just started to Build That's why we did that directional Change because to him it looked like the Dog was turning into him But he managed it nearly perfectly We're gonna repeat that drill again Much better much better Bruce good boy
